One Stop Shop for Real Time & Forensic Analytics

Video surveillance systems are deployed in government and business sites around the world, with video now being recorded at unprecedented rates. Many progressive organizations stand at the technology forefront, having introduced real-time video analytics to their surveillance networks.

Real-time analytics is a powerful tool for detecting incidents, breaches and suspicious behavior as it occurs, enabling security teams to respond to events as they unfold. However, when the security team needs to identify events or extract data based on events that occurred in the past – whether it be weeks or months earlier – the team must painstakingly review hours and hours of archived video footage, in order to pinpoint the precise event or information required. Not anymore. Enter Vi-Search.

Agent Vi listened to its customer base and developed Vi-Search – a video search technology presented in a simple GUI that anyone can understand and use in a matter of minutes. The technology affords the ability to search through masses of stored video in seconds, and enables users to look at information in ways never before considered. Vi-Search can be used to find a person in a “red” shirt, a “yellow” truck, or even an object “similar” to one already selected. Furthermore, users have search functionality options, including viewing search results as thumbnails, as statistical reports, within a video summary, or even through graphical presentation of motion paths, as seen in the screenshot above, which allows the user to instantly identify and analyze anomalies. Providing this level of capability is a paradigm shift in the analytics market, differentiating Agent Vi from other analytics companies. With Vi-Search complementing Vi-System, Agent Vi’s real-time analytics, Agent Vi is truly a one stop shop for all your video analytics needs.

How Does the Use of Megapixel Cameras Impact Video Analytics?

High resolution camera deployment is continually growing, and with it, the demand for providing video content analysis for these cameras.

Being able to effectively analyze a large number of megapixel cameras is particularly challenging when working in a server based environment. The video stream needs to be sent to the analytics server, decoded and then analyzed. With high quality video streams (for example 2 megapixel h.264), the processing power required just for decoding the video can be 4 times or more than that required for standard definition cameras. This means that the number of servers required to analyze megapixel cameras will also increase by the same factor, making the deployment much more expensive and complex.

Agent Vi’s optimized deployment architecture resolves this issue by not requiring any video decoding to be undertaken at the server. Since each camera which requires analysis has the Vi-Agent software on board, there is no need for the video stream to be sent to the server. The original captured video frames are initially analyzed at the camera and only the results of this analysis are sent to the server for further processing. Thanks to special optimizations created in the Vi-Agent, the amount of data sent for high resolution cameras is not significantly greater than that which is sent for standard definition cameras, resulting in the analytics server being able to handle high resolution cameras just as effectively. Deploying analytics in this manner means that a quad core server can analyze 200 cameras regardless of their resolution.

Agent Vi Launches Vi-Search

Agent Vi has expanded its intelligent video offering, releasing a new video search and analysis tool which enables automatic searches that scan and analyze days of stored video in seconds. This innovative video search software enables rapid and effective retrieval and presentation of specific video segments from vast amounts of recorded video, and also offers statistical analysis capabilities, such as analysis of motion patterns, traffic flows, and traffic loads.

Partners, customers and interested others viewed the newly-launched Vi-Search at Agent Vi’s booth at ASIS Exhibition in September 2009 in Anaheim, California. Over 150 interested companies viewed live demonstrations, and the feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting that Vi-Search may well be the “killer application” for the video analytics market. There was much interest in the wide range of features offered, as well as the intuitive nature of the software.

Over thirty European partners also viewed Vi-Search at a “Product Launch” held by Agent Vi in Barcelona, Spain in October 2009. Attendees commented that Vi-Search serves as a perfect complement to Vi-System (Agent Vi's real-time analytics software), and expressed enthusiasm at the prospect of offering their customers a complete package of video analytics solutions. They recognized the advantage to their customers of utilizing and reaping the benefits of the stored video (which usually remains idle until post-event analysis is required), including leveraging the stored video for business intelligence purposes, among others.
