Agent Vi Reports 38% Revenue Growth in 2009, Expands to Retail Markets

Agent Video Intelligence (Agent Vi), global provider of video analytics software, has reported 38% revenue growth in 2009, exceeding the annual growth rate of the video analytics market, which was recently estimated at 19% by England-based research and sector-focused intelligence provider, VB/Research. Agent Vi's sales growth relative to the market’s growth signals Agent Vi’s increasing market share over other video analytics companies.

The unique distributed architecture employed by Agent Vi enables the running of unlimited video analytics functions simultaneously on hundreds of cameras, while only requiring a single analytics server. This comprehensive and highly scalable approach made Agent Vi’s products the ideal choice for several large-scale video surveillance projects implemented in 2009, including numerous projects with over 100 video analytics channels, and a handful of projects featuring more than 1,000 analytics channels.

In 2010, Agent Vi will begin selling Vi-Search – an open platform, search and analysis software for recorded video which enables automatic search through days of stored video in seconds. Ultimately, the cutting-edge software enables pin-pointing of precise events from masses of stored video, with high accuracy and ease of use.

"Vi-Search is a complete video search and analysis tool that allows for quick and effective post-event analysis for security applications while also providing business intelligence tools for a variety of environments ranging from mass transit terminals to retail stores" said Itsik Kattan, CEO of Agent Vi. Citing examples of retail applications, Kattan suggested "Measuring store traffic, detecting high movement areas, comparing shoppers’ traffic and motion patterns across different areas of a store and across different branches for various time periods, and then being able to cross-reference this information to sales data – therein lies the benefit for retailers, who will be able to save on operating costs and increase their stores’ efficiency through automated analysis of their stored video."

How Agent Vi’s Video Analytics Could Have Prevented the Newark Airport Debacle

The major aerial transportation hub of Newark Airport was shut down on 3 January 2010, resulting in delays of multiple flights, and the re-screening of several thousand passengers. Such measures were taken as a result of a security breach – a man walked from an unsecured, public hall into a sterile area of the Newark Airport terminal.

Ironically, the debacle could have been avoided with a simple upgrade to the airport's surveillance system. Deploying Agent Vi’s video analytics solutions – Vi-System or Vi-Search – would have brought about a very different outcome.

Numerous international airports already deploy Vi-System, allowing them to be alerted to security and safety breaches in real-time. Specifically, Vi-System – which can be configured to generate an alert for any person entering through an exit, as well as for a range of other security threats and scenarios – would have instantly detected the man who entered through the exit and alerted the security team, long before he was lost in the crowd causing airport authorities to empty the terminal, physically scan it and re-screen thousands of passengers.

Vi-Search could also have easily located the man. A quick and simple query using Vi-Search could scan the recorded video and identify the suspect instantly, allowing the security team to quickly apprehend him. Such instantaneous search would save the valuable time required to undertake a manual search through the video in order to trace his steps through the terminal. Moreover, Vi-Search could present the person's entire motion path, any objects he might have left in the terminal, and even any interaction he may have had with screened passengers.

How can the detection capabilities of a video analytics solution be verified?

The common concern facing most end users wishing to deploy analytics software for real-time alert generation is that of probability of detection (POD) vs. false alarm rate (FAR). These are the most crucial parameters to look at when applying real-time video analytics since they determine whether the system can provide accurate, useful information or will simply flood the end user with nuisance alarms. Traditionally, users have had to either rely on manufacturers’ claims as to the performance of their systems, or conduct their own tests which often turns into a lengthy and costly process.

The solution to this problem is having an independent certification process that any video analytics solution can go through and be certified to provide acceptable POD and FAR rates for a specific application. The only such certification process in existence today is the i-LIDS® program conducted by the UK Home Office. This program allows analytics systems to be certified for a variety of detection tasks and is open to any vendor from any country. Agent Vi’s Vi-System (Ver 3.3 SP1) is one of a very small number of analytics solutions that have received the highest possible i-LIDS® certification as a Primary Detection System for operational alert use in sterile zone monitoring applications, which tests the ability of the software to detect people along a fence line in a perimeter security application.

Agent Vi Wins Major Contract: 1,000+ Video Analytics Channels

Agent Vi has won a major video analytics contract to provide over 1,000 video analytics channels as part of a comprehensive upgrade to surveillance capabilities over three lines of a major Far East subway system. Led by COE Group Ltd., the upgrade project includes several thousand cameras.

By integrating Agent Vi's real-time video analytics solution – Vi-System – with COE's advanced video servers, over 1,000 cameras will offer analytics capabilities, enabling real-time alerts for pre-defined safety and security incidents, as well as monitoring of various aspects of operational efficiency. In particular, Vi-System will support real-time people counting as well as detection of, and alerts for, breaches into restricted zones, human presence on or near the tracks, presence of suspicious objects, detection of crowding and more.

Vi-System was selected following cost and performance considerations, confirming that Agent Vi’s highly scalable solutions are well suited to projects of such magnitude.
