Agent Vi Continues Penetration of the Retail Market with Enhanced Video Analytics Capabilities

Continuing a trend of large-scale adoption of video analytics in the retail market, Agent Vi has successfully deployed its video analytics solutions at a number of retail customers over the past year. Agent Vi offers retailers a complete solution that meets the retailer’s security and safety requirements, as well as providing business intelligence that helps to optimize operations and produce valuable business data from the surveillance networks.

The counting capabilities offered by Agent Vi include bi-directional tallying which allows users to count, compare and aggregate the number of people passing through entrances and exits. Tracking the number of customers for different days and time periods enables optimal planning for in-store promotions and events.

Agent Vi’s heat map is a user-friendly tool that allows users to visualize traffic levels in areas of interest. The colored map enables easy identification of high and low traffic zones, allowing shops and stores to identify “hot zones” to assist marketing decisions, decide on locations for in-store promotional campaigns, and optimize store layout to drive sales.

Additionally, Agent Vi’s target path analysis offers a graphical presentation of all motion paths in a scene for easy identification of traffic trends and anomalies. Identifying dominant traffic paths enables better merchandising and product placement decision-making.

Ask Agent Vi: How can video analytics be best employed for counting applications?

In recent years, video analytics has become a preferred method for people counting due to it being highly accurate, unobtrusive and cost effective. Agent Vi provides advanced tools for capturing high accuracy counting data and efficiently analyzing it.

A successful people counting deployment starts with suitable camera type selection and correct camera placement. Camera selection is based on the installation height and the lens type, and should enable a field of view width of about 1.5-3 meters.

The most effective and accurate results are achieved when cameras are placed above entry and exit points and looking straight down. This overhead position helps eliminate occlusions and ensure that each and every person walking through the field of view is correctly counted.

In some cases it is not possible to place the cameras in an overhead position due to physical constraints. Agent Vi’s counting solution is still able to perform well in these situations and high accuracy can still be achieved if occlusions are not frequent.

Setting up the counting solution is very easy due to Agent Vi’s patent-pending Automatic Scene Learning (ASL) capability which self-calibrates the software to achieve optimal results for each specific camera view. Once the software completes the automatic calibration, the user simply defines the counting line and direction, and data can start being collected immediately. Proper planning and installation can ensure accuracy levels of 95% and higher.

Agent Vi also provides various tools for generating counting and statistics reports which can be used to illustrate the flow of people on a daily, monthly and yearly basis in a table or chart (graph) format. Reports are exported into Microsoft Excel format which allows for easy data manipulation and integration with additional data sources (such as POS data).

Agent Vi Protects Mt. QingCheng, UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site

Mt. QingCheng National Park in Sichuan, China, is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site – home to the Dujiangyan irrigation system, the famous Anlan Bridge, and multiple Taoist and Buddhist temples and sites. The park’s management sought to monitor the entry of visitors to the park through prohibited forest trails, thereby evading the entrance fees required to maintain the park. The management of the national park also required a solution that allowed them to measure the traffic of people on Anlan Bridge at any one time, to prevent overloading the bridge which could create unsafe conditions. Mt. QingCheng National Park deployed Vi-System – Agent Vi’s real-time detection and alert software – to monitor the park’s expansive grounds and oversee visitor traffic. The security team is now alerted immediately to unauthorized entry of visitors and to traffic over specific thresholds, allowing instant responses and deployment of staff as necessary. Agent Vi Presents its Solutions at Partner Events

Agent Vi participated in a recent Milestone Partner Open Platform (MPOP) event, presenting Agent Vi’s video analytics solutions to a range of systems integrators, resellers and consultants. Held in Pisa, Italy in June, the attendees heard about the seamless integration of Agent Vi’s video analytics solutions with Milestone’s video management systems.

Additionally, Belgian channel partner ESSC held an event for 40 participants in Antwerp in May, focusing on the Agent Vi-Milestone-Axis integrated solution. Toon Eeckelhaert, CEO of ESSC, presented the KDL Trans installation, which employs Axis thermal cameras and a recording and viewing application by Milestone, integrated with Agent Vi’s real-time analytics, to secure the 11,000 square meter premises of this major logistics enterprise.
